Delete Unused (Hidden or Unhidden) Layers

In this lesson, we’ll learn about

  • Hide/Hidden Layers
  • Unhide Layers
  • Various Methods to Delete Hidden or Unhidden Layers
  • Selecting Multiple Layers – Adjacent or Non-Adjacent

When I’m working on a layout I try a lot of different things, which is easy to do with layers because you can hide layers and unhide them with a click of a button.  I also use templates quite often but I don’t always use all the layers in the template.  This lesson is about deleting hidden/unhidden layers that will not be used in the final layout.  As a bonus, deleting the unused layers saves space on your hard drive.  We all need that!

There are several ways to delete layers that you do not want to use or have hidden.  I tend to use them all at one point or another.

This template by Scrapping with Liz is from her June Blog Challenge.

Selecting Multiple Layers – Adjacent or Non-Adjacent

To select multiple adjacent layers: Click on the first layer, hold the Shift key down, click on the last layer. Then use one of the methods to delete.

To select non-adjacent layers: Click on the first layer, hold the Ctrl key down, click on all the layers you want to delete. Then use one of the methods to delete.

Method 3 – Delete All Hidden Layers

I hide/unhide layers (click the eye on the left of the layer) as I’m working on a layout.  I may change my mind about using the layer or use it to place another object.  Once satisfied with the layout, all hidden layers can be easily deleted.

Layers Panel> Click Drop Down List> Delete Hidden Layers

Here is a layout I made using this template.
