How to Be Awesome!

I absolutely love Created by Jill’s kit “How to Be Awesome”.  I didn’t even realize how much I was going to love it until I started working with it.  The collection has a feminine and a masculine kit. Some of the elements can be used with either kit.  This collection is huge!!

In addition, I used two new templates in Flutterby Templates set by  JoCee Designs.  These templates are so cool and they make it quick and easy to put a layout together.

First I made a layout using the “feminine” pieces.  I liked the results so much I had to use the masculine side too.  Here are the layouts I created.

Peace, Be Still

“Be Still” is one of the most beautiful kits I’ve seen recently.  It’s based on one of my favorite verses in the bible, “Be still and know that I am God”, Psalm 46:10.  Sometimes we let the circumstances around us cause us to lose sight of what’s important.  The only way to stay grounded is to keep our eyes on God.  When we remember that God is in control, we can have peace in the midst of turmoil.

Be Still

I also used this kit for the Art Journal Challenge at The Digichick. The challenge was to use a word, from a website of invented words, designed to fill a hole in the English language.  The word I chose is Silience.  God’s masterpieces-sunrises, sunsets, rainbows, mountains, oceans, stars, animals, flowers, etcetera are new every day yet we take them for granted.  We have friends and family with talents we aren’t aware of or don’t acknowledge.  Silience abounds!

Silience

As we go through life, let’s learn to appreciate the talent, beauty and masterpieces that surround us. Take time to recognize and encourage the efforts of those around us.  Be still and know God can give you peace and great calm in the midst of any storm (Mark 4:39).

Kit and Template Makes Scrapping So Easy!

I absolutely loved working with this kit and template, it really makes scrapping so easy!  I love the colors and embellishments that are included in the kit.  They’re soft and pretty.  I’ve used three of the four templates that are included in the template set and I love the looks of each one.  Plus, templates can be rotated or altered in innumerable ways making them even better.  As always, I’ve included links to the kit and template in the credits below the layout.

You Got Me at Lady Bug

Yes, I love ladybugs, so when a kit comes out called Lady Bug, Lady Bug, you got me.  Not only does this kit have ladybugs, it has tons of glorious colors and elements I love.  Take a look at a couple of layouts created using this lovely kit.  I’ve linked the credits so you can easily pick up this new release for yourself.

My Sweet Valentine

My husband and I don’t actually celebrate Valentine’s day.  He has surprised me a couple of times over the last thirty-one years but they were exceptions to the rule.  Leading up to Valentine’s day designers release tons of products aimed at this day.  The layout I made today uses a template from JoCee Designs and a kit by Snickerdoodle Designs.  My layout is not too “Valentiney”, but then neither am I.

Quirky Hearts

I think this kit, Quirky Hearts, by Kimeric Kreations was made for these photos.  The wood papers really give it a country feel and it isn’t too “sappy”.   The template used with the journal cards and other embellishments made it fast & easy to put together.  Links are in the credits below.  You do need to be logged into the store.  Click the links below to check them out.Happily Ever AfterCredits:

My Creative Team Hiatus is Finally Over

I’m happy to say my creative team hiatus is finally over.  I believe I’ve found my happy place. By nature, I prefer things organized and I like to know what’s expected of me.  Check and check. At the same time, it’s great to be among people with the same interests, that love scrapping and want to have fun.  Check, check, check.  And to put a little icing on the cake, I get to work with my favorite designers and my favorite store!  Can’t beat that.

The Digichick, and all the creative chicks that work behind the scenes have got it goin’ on. The CT call I’ve been waiting finally called,  I applied immediately and waited on pins and needles for their decisions.  When I opened my email Tuesday morning I was so excited to find I’d been accepted to the team.  Woot! Woot!

You can expect to see a lot of layouts and news about new releases, challenges, special events and all things Digichick.  One of the new releases today is Smooch by Sas Designs.  Just in time for you to scrap some layouts of the ones you love and it’s on sale right now.

Love!

I used Kimeric Kreations February Fan template for this layout.   Here are the links:

Design Principles Rule of Thirds

Some of the best photos, paintings and layouts are composed using a guideline called the rule of thirds.  Basically, you divide your “canvas” into equal parts horizontally and vertically.  Then you place your focal point along the lines dividing you composition, as in the illustration below.

Rule of Thirds

If you were taking a picture of a landscape you might place the horizon along the lower horizontal line.  This will result in a more interesting composition than if you placed it smack dab in the middle of the page.  In the layout below you’ll notice this principle is used twice.  In the sunrise photo the horizon is placed on the imagined lower third and the photo as the focal point is centered vertically on the left third and the blue/grey elements & base of the photo are in the lower third.

Sunrise

The next two layouts use the rule of thirds again.  In addition, you may notice I cluster elements in a way to maximize flow.  I want to lead your eyes around the page while drawing attention to the focal point.  More about that in a future article.
