My Loves

This layout of “My Loves” was made using two products that are new in the store.  I love the template with the confetti and this kit has such beautiful colors and is so versatile, it can be used for much more than Valentine’s day layouts.

Photo-less Layouts

What do you think about photo-less layouts?  I’ve heard people say they haven’t scrapped lately because they don’t have any great photos or they don’t feel inspired.  What about scrapping less than perfect photos or no photos at all?  Sometimes just getting started is the hardest part.

I think layouts without photos are another great way to record everyday life.  When you look at old photos from your parents, grandparents or even great great grandparents do you ever wonder what everyday life was like for them.  Do you wish you had more insight into their thoughts and dreams?  I know I do.

Here are a few ideas for layouts using something besides photos:

  • Inspirational or favorite quotes
  • Favorites lists (a great thing to do each birthday)
  • Funny things your kids say or do (out of the mouth of babes)
  • Facts about someplace you visited
  • Birth statistics
  • Invitations

If you think about yourself and some of the things you wish you knew about your ancestors or things you’d like future generations to remember about you & your immediate family it’s easy.

I love Dr. Seuss and I’ve passed that love down to my son & he’s passed it down to his kids. Dr. Seuss had some profound things to say.  Here’s a layout made with one of my favorite quotes.

Youer Than You quote

A page like this in a family album would bring smiles to some faces and open up conversations about how much we all loved Dr. Seuss.  Add Happy Birthday!  across the top & it would make a very cute birthday card.

Celebrating BFF, Sisters and Watermelon Day August 3rd

Today we celebrate three funny holidays-Friendship Day, Sister’s Day & Watermelon Day.  I love them all!  My love my Sister who is also my best friend.  Although, I don’t have any photos of us eating watermelon together, I did include a watermelon in the layout.
BFFSistersDayResizeIt’s great having a BFF Sister!  I can’t imagine it any other way.  Make time for your family and friends.  Nurture what matters.  Whether you celebrate one or all of these funny holidays, be sure to have a wonderful time.

The bible says, “This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalms 118:24.  Notice this is a command not a request.

Color Me Happy!

I am loving all the colorful kits coming out with the yellows, reds, oranges & blues, they just make me happy!  Fall and winter colors tend to be a bit depressing to me.  Then you’ve got the Valentines Day and St. Patrick’s Day drivel.  Sorry if I stepped on any toes but it would be nice if everyone didn’t jump on that band wagon.  But now it’s April, yay April!  Although there are, unfortunately, a lot of pastels for Easter there are also some gorgeous kits with yellows, reds, oranges & blues.  These colors make me very happy!

Ready To Go with New Layout

The last few months of my life have been very hectic but I’m back now and ready to go with some new layouts, tutorials, reviews and more.  I made today’s layout with a free mini kit I got on our Digi Scrapping Freebies group on Facebook.  The photo is of my precious grand babies.  Big sister made a “tent” in the living room and her and baby brother were watching TV.

Love My Grands020814

She made the tent Friday evening for Family Movie Night but it’s always more fun to watch TV in a tent so it got to stay up all weekend.

When I found this free digital scrapbooking kit by The Scrappy Penguin I thought it was perfect.  You can find it on our Freebies Facebook group here.  I used My Memories Suite scrapbooking software to make this layout.  You can click the link on the right side of my page then enter my coupon code for $10 off plus get a $10 store coupon with the confirming email when your purchase is complete.

Why Do You Scrapbook?

Why do you scrapbook?  A designer recently posted this question on her Facebook page.  I was never a big paper scrapper.  Actually I’ve only completed one paper scrapbook and I have an unfinished one but then I found digital scrapping and I’ve been hooked ever since.

I found digital scrapping out of necessity.  I wanted to make a “party favor” of sorts for all the family members that attended our first family reunion without spending a lot of money.  I had thought about making a Power Point presentation but that really wasn’t what I was looking for and making a paper scrapbook for everyone was just too expensive.  After doing some online research I found MyMemories Suite scrapbooking software.  It was perfect and so easy, there was a very small learning curve.

I was able to put together a lovely memory “book” for everyone which I set to music and burned to DVD.  It was really a family history of sorts.  The idea for a family reunion came about after my brother’s funeral.  Our family is spread across two states and the only time we’d all get together was for funerals!  The older generation were already passing, in the previous decade we’d lost my father and my older brother.

My son, niece and two nephews really worked at making all the plans for a reunion.  The cousins, as we call them, have really made an effort to keep in contact and remain close even though they’re separated by many miles.  So the DVD was much more than a reunion memory, it was a family heritage keepsake.  I collected old photos and tried to show highlights of ours lives as we grew up and had families of our own and they had families of their own too.  It brought back lovely memories and made everyone laugh and cry.

In the process, I became hooked on digital scrapping and found a community of people that share my love for scrapping.  We love our families and want to pass on some of our cherished memories.  We are our families memory keepers.

What about you?  Why do you scrapbook?

My Perfect Day!

If you had to describe your “Perfect Day” what would it look like?  For me nothing could be better than spending time with my husband, son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter.  In a few short months I’ll be able to add grandson to that list, yay.  We don’t live in close proximity so when we are able to get together I am perfectly happy just to spend time together.  If I was able to move closer to them I could have a whole bunch of perfect days.  I’d love to be able to be there for every day activities like dance recitals, swimming lessons, school programs, field trips and soon feeding, burping and changing the baby.  Hey a girl can dream!

I’ve been trying to persuade Paw Paw to  sell our business and retire.  Then I’d be able to be the mother and grandmother I’ve always wanted to be.  Here is a layout of my last perfect day.  It’s been over six months and we overdue a visit.  Hopefully that’ll happen later this month.

Have the Courage to Cluster

Scrappers should not fear embellies and clusters.  Done right they will take your layouts to the next level.  But there is a right way and a wrong way.  One little flower on a page just gets lost and personally I think bigger is better.  Check out this article for ideas on adding embellishments and clustering on your layouts for a whole new look.  Now even if I don’t change your mind about adding more embellishments to your layouts, it’s good to step out of your comfort zone occasionally and see what you can do.  As for me, I do have a few, a very few, layouts that are fairly minimal so I have stepped out of my zone too!

Ice Cream   Ice Cream Makes Me Silly

I think the layout on the right does a better job expressing the fun and silliness shown in the photos.  Do you agree?
